Government of Bangladesh has started Maternity allowance scheme from fiscal year 2007-08 to reduce sufferings and difficulties of poor and underprivileged pregnant women of villages. Department of Women Affairs under the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs has been implementing this scheme.
To ensure more transparency and accountability in getting benefits by poor mothers, Finance division under the Ministry of Finance has developed a centralized Management Information System (MIS) under the project Strengthening Public Financial Management For Social Protection(SPFMSP).

- Management of applications, selection process (double dipping verification, prioritization, field verification and final selection), card print, training, grievance, and allowance related budget and expenditure
- Reports and analytical statistics
